Birth records are wonderful for the genealogist, since they not only list the date and place of birth for an ancestor, they also list the names, and sometimes, the birthplaces of the parents as well. Prior to the early-to-mid 1900s, it was not required that a birth certificate be filed in most places, though some areas did maintain records of vital statistics, as you will find in the indexes below. However; for the nation at large, even when laws were enacted on the subject, many failed to comply, especially those in rural areas. Listed here are indexes to those birth records I have thus far found in my research. If you can add to these compilations or would like source information, please feel free to contact me directly.
