Reverend J. E. Huffines

Background: The Rev. Jesse Ellis Huffines was the son of Daniel H. Huffines and his wife, Sarah Jane. Jesse was one of ten children born to this union. Jesse was born in Jackson County, Tennessee to his parents in August of 1854. This information was documented using court, census, and other public records relevant to the family.

Jackson County, Previous to moving to Algood ten years ago, he had resided in the 3rd district , where he had lived all his life. He was thrice married. His first wife was [Synthia] Hunter, daughter of J.C. Hunter of the third district. Three children were born to this union, his wife dying when the children were small. Two of these children, Kirk and Tennie died several years ago at the age of 35. The oldest son Will H. lives at Hillman, Tennessee. His second wife was [Nancy Josephine] Green of the 3rd district. Five children were born to this union: Mrs. Lee Webb, Wilson, Oklahoma; Mrs. Joe Phillips, Cookeville, Rt 7; Mrs, Clarence Whitaker, Gainesboro, Route 2; Boss of Allons, Tennessee; Melvine of Brotherton, Tenn. His third wife, who survives him was Mrs. Hannah ______ Carver. Besides his wife he is survived by five step-children and a large number of grandchildren.
