Background: Samuel Marion Huffines was the son of Riley Washington Huffines and his first wife Sarah ‘Sally’ Ray. Samuel Marion was born in Jackson County, Tennessee and in his adult years removed to neighboring Putnam County where he lived a long and full life.From other sources, Samuel Marion Huffines was born on 1 Dec 1875 and died on 9 Aug 1928.

S. M. Huffines, a highly respected citizen and merchant of West Cookeville [Putnam County, Tennessee], died at his home Thursday afternoon after a long siege of tuberculosis.

Mr. Huffines moved to Cookeville from Jackson County a few years ago with his family and had made many friends here by his fair dealing with his fellowman.

He was about 52 years of age and is survived by his wife and two children, Aaron and Dorothy Mae. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had lived a consistent Christian life for many years.

The remains were interred in the Cookeville City Cemetery Saturday afternoon with appropriate funeral services, attended by a large number of friends and relatives.

The funeral services were conducted by Eld. W. M. Oakley - Putnam County Herald.
